Established in our heritage region of southern Africa, African Conservation Experience work with projects that are currently based in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.
Working in the some of the most stunning and diverse ecosystems on earth, your sustainable volunteering placements ensure long term support for the vulnerable wildlife and local communities we work with while giving you the amazing opportunity to work with wildlife.
Conservation work takes many forms so you can get involved joining a project that matches your interests, whether you want to work with wildlife in a wildlife care centre, gain wildlife veterinary experience, or field research skills, pursue a conservation internship, become a marine conservation volunteer or learn about Africa's wildlife by joining one of our game ranger courses. You will find a range of projects in each category below. Every project is unique in its conservation mission, the focus of its work and the responsibilities and living conditions for the volunteers. We will chat to you in detail about which project would suit you best after you apply to be a wildlife volunteer in Africa to make sure you get the most out of your conservation placement.
Project Locations
Wildlife Veterinary Experience
Work alongside our experienced wildlife vets in South Africa, assisting them on all wildlife cases, from ear notching rhinos to disease testing buffalo.
Wildlife Care & rehabilitation
Get some hands-on experience in animal care, looking after injured, orphaned and abandoned wildlife.
Wildlife Conservation & Management
Experience the African bush as you join teams of field researchers and game rangers, assisting with wildlife population studies, game reserve management on horseback and wildlife capture and relocation.
Game Ranger & Wildlife Tracking Courses
Learn about Africa’s amazing wildlife and ecosystems by joining an intensive course, based on practical learning in the field.
Marine Conservation
Help protect dolphins and whales by working alongside marine scientists in South Africa and Mauritius.
Community Projects
Ensure a sustainable approach to conservation by working with a local charity to build environmental awareness in South Africa’s schools.
Group Placements
