I had an amazing experience volunteering for six weeks at Phinda Wildlife Research Project with African Conservation Experience (ACE). During my time there, I had the opportunity to work closely with a variety of species in the field, including rhinos, cheetahs, and many other animals. This experience provided me with a unique opportunity to learn about conservation and reserve management from local professionals.
Some highlights of my trip included participating in management activities such as a rhino horn trimming procedure (an effective anti-poaching strategy) and collaring a cheetah!
My trip with ACE was very educational! Volunteering has allowed me to learn about the different types of habitats at Phinda, and from this, I have developed a new keen interest in the sand forests there. The frequent encounters with wildlife at Phinda were very special. Being able to contribute to conserving the habitats and lives of these animals was amazing.
I highly recommend volunteering with both Phinda and ACE! I am looking forward to returning in the future.
