Volunteering at Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and the Vikela Kruger Conservation Experience through African Conservation Experience was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.Β
From the moment I arrived, I was immersed in the real, unglamorous, and deeply rewarding work of animal rehabilitation, helping with feeding, cleaning enclosures, and caring for animals recovering from human impact.
The staff and local community welcomed us with open arms, and the knowledge they shared about conservation, the ecosystem, and the importance of community-led stewardship was something no classroom could replicate. Yes, the days were early and physically demanding, but that's exactly what made it so real.
What I didn't expect was how much I'd grow personally alongside the animals.
I left with a profound respect for the resilience of wildlife, a deeper understanding of the human role in conservation, and friendships with fellow volunteers and staff that I will carry for a lifetime.Β
The accommodation was comfortable, the program was well-organised, and I always felt safe and supported.
If you're considering this experience and wondering whether it's worth it: it is, without question!
Come ready to work hard, stay open to being humbled, and prepare to leave a piece of your heart in the bush.
