Hartpury College from the UK joined us in 2025 for their third African Conservation Experience (ACE) Field Trip. The college specialises in animal care and conservation studies so their trips with ACE put their classroom learning into action!
During their two weeks with ACE, the 2025 Hartpury cohort spent one week at a wildlife rehabilitation centre and one week at a wildlife conservation research camp. At both locations, the students were involved in important conversations about animal behaviour, game reserve management, and anti-poaching. They also gained hands-on experience looking after a variety of different species and developing their in-field research skills by participating in camera trapping, data collection from vehicles, and waterhole biodiversity studies.
“We came as a cohort from Hartpury College and we couldn't have had a better trip if we had tried. The ACE team was incredibly supportive and helped us to create a fantastic time for our students and I know we will continue to utilise ACE to plan trips going forward!"
“If you are looking to volunteer in Africa, you know that going with ACE you will be supported every step of the way and we witnessed this countless times with the ACE team supporting multiple volunteers!”
Jasmine Shellam, MRes Anthrozoology - Teacher at Hartpury College, Lecturer in Animal Care
“I just wanted to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to the ACE team for everything you did for the Hartpury students. You provided them all with such fabulous insight into conservation and the difficulties faced by the people and animals of South Africa. We really appreciate your care and kindness towards the entirety of the group. Annabelle has had a fantastic experience with ACE and I sincerely hope that the passion and information shared with her goes on to inspire her to continue her working life in the pursuit of caring for animals, their welfare and conservation.”
Charlotte - Parent of Hartpury College student
“I really enjoyed this experience as I got to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with, and see, all of these different animals in South Africa. All the people who took care of us and allowed us to do everything we did, were all very kind and they made me really enjoy this trip.”
Thomas Brain - Student at Hartpury College
“I went on a school trip through ACE for two weeks and it was an amazing, truly unforgettable learning experience!”
