African Conservation Experience work with a number of international schools and universities every year to create highly educational, rewarding and hands-on field trips. No matter if your group consists of 5 people or 50, and if you are all aspiring vets, Explorer Scouts, animal management students or just conservation enthusiasts – we’d love to put together an unforgettable field trip in Africa for you.
ACE field trips typically involve real, hands-on conservation work or research – they are not a mock-safari or overland adventure. Please do let us know if you have specific learning outcomes or experiences that are important; we love the challenge of putting together a programme that will tick all the boxes and have everyone return home feeling they’ve had a life-changing experience.
We also pride ourselves on exceptional service. You’ll find ACE to be quite heavily involved in your field trip – from helping you recruit participants if necessary, to arranging insurance, meeting you on arrival and being available throughout your time in Africa.
Within reason, anything you want! Every group field trip is a collaborative effort: We will work very closely with you to create a programme that meets your objectives and budget. We have a wealth of contacts within the wildlife conservation field in southern Africa, so we are able to include a huge range of activities. We are more than happy to incorporate other elements, such as community service or a cultural experience as well, but if you are working with ACE for your field trip, wildlife and conservation should be the main themes – it’s what we do best!
The programmes below are examples of field trips that we have run successfully in the past. You can base your own group trip on any of these, or create your own – feel free to send us your wish list! You can contact us directly or you can email us at email@example.com.
WILDLIFE VETERINARY COURSE
Working under the supervision of a South African wildlife vet, this programme gives groups of veterinary medicine or pre-vet students the chance to gain hands-on experience in the field, as well as the opportunity to learn about chemical immobilisation of wildlife.
CAS FIELD TRIP FOR IB SCHOOLS
Conservation is a crucial global issue, which makes it a great area for International Baccalaureate students to explore as part of their CAS programme. This sample school trip takes students to Africa and engages them in practical conservation service, new challenges and critical debate about conservation issues, all whilst linking with the CAS learning outcomes.
SERVICE LEARNING TRIP
With its rich natural resources and cultural diversity South Africa is perfect for an experience-based service college trip. Students will make a real contribution to conservation and community projects and learn to think about their own values and the role they will want to play in our global society.
AFRICAN ECOSYSTEMS FIELD COURSE
This course is put together with a view to giving students maximum exposure to the wildlife and habitats of southern Africa. In this college trip, learning takes place predominantly in the field during practical wildlife research work, game drives, bush walks and sleep-outs.
