Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage ›

Country:
United Kingdom

I travelled to the Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage in Zimbabwe. ACE had put me touch with 2 other girls that were on the same international flight as me, which was very helpful and it was really nice to share the bulk of the traveling with them.

Chipangali is an amazing family run organisation, run by Kevin & Nicky and their children and I am now best friends with the family. The centre has a great family feel and you quickly bond with all of the other volunteers and I still keep in touch with many of the other volunteers.

The daily routine consisted of breakfast and then the start of our daily duties of feeding the baby animals we were looking after. We worked with carnivores, primates & antelope and although it was hard work but it was very rewarding. I enjoyed the animal time we had each day which gave us a chance to spend some quality time with the animals. The evenings were all spent together and we had camp fires, walks & games.

The volunteer co-ordinator was great and really looked after me during my first few days as I felt really homesick and she helped me settle in.

I have gained a lot of knowledge about the animals that I didn’t have before I went and gained more understanding of the issues around conservation as well as learning leadership skills and an appreciation of the dedication shown by the staff.

I also got the chance to visit Victoria Falls which was amazing !

ACE had arranged all my travel & flights and everything went smoothly and I am very happy to share my experience with everyone. 6 weeks in Africa has been one of the best experiences i have done and I would recommend it to anyone.
